About the company

We are presently recruiting for a Temporary
Researcher for our Charity / Trust client.
The Trust was founded in
2009.The Foundation was then
established in 2020 to make use of the new structure of a Charitable
Incorporated Organisation. The Trust and
Foundation are anticipating a substantial increase in funds and are now looking
to employ a researcher on a short-term contract to investigate the support
currently provided by the state, by charities and privately that falls within
the scope of the existing objects, and then to consider the areas where these
existing objects could be widened while still remaining focused on the overall
objective of improving the education and early life of young people who are
blind or partially sighted.

It is suggested that the researcher will
cover the following areas:

·
Identify the needs of young people up to the age
of 25 who are blind and partially sighted

·
Identify the appropriate age range, e.g. should
support be provided to babies or very young children who are visually impaired
together with their parents/carers?

·
The extent to which these needs should, under
statutory provisions, be met by the state

·
The extent to which these needs are currently met
by other organisations, especially charities, and for each such organisation
establish the following:

Ø  Type of organisation

Ø  Objectives of organisation

Ø  Management structure

Ø  Geographical area of
operation

Ø  Activities

Ø  Assets and income

Ø  Source of funding

Ø  Number of employees

Ø  Premises

·
Based on the information provided under 3 and 4,
identify the major gaps there are in the support provided to meet the needs of
young people who are blind or partially sighted

·
Identify the opportunities for the Trust and
Foundation to fill these gaps by either making direct grants to individuals or
by providing financial assistance to organisations (most probably charities)
working in this area

Why you will be hired

The person best placed to undertake this
research is likely to have an existing understanding of the statutory and
voluntary framework for the support provided to people with a visual
disability.

Preferably the research would be
undertaken on a full-time basis but, for the right individual, it could be part
time although not less than the equivalent of three days a week. You would need to be able to work
independently in your own workspace.

It is anticipated that the researcher
would provide an initial update to the trustees after about 10 days’ work. This could be in the form of a bullet point
summary followed by a remote meeting with the trustees. There may then be the opportunity to agree to
focus the research in a particular area.

It is hoped that a draft of the final
report would be available after 20 days’ work but this is open to review with
the trustees.
