About the company

We are actively recruiting for a Senior Liaison Librarian for our Governmental client based in London. This is a new role within the organisation and part of a wide range of changes across Research Information Services where the Library is committed to delivering more training staff.

What you will be doing

For the first twelve months, the postholder will work extensively with staff based in the Committee Office to build closer links between departments. Following a twelve month review by the Committee Office Management Group, the Library Management Board and the recommendations of the Library 2020 programme, the postholder may continue to work with Committee Office staff or may be asked to focus on delivering a training and liaison service for Members’ staff, based upon whichever has more impact on the Library’s ability to deliver our strategy.

In the first instance, the postholder of this new role will use their librarianship skills and experience, particularly in liaison and information literacy training, to support the Committee Office in making more purposeful use of research and expertise when conducting inquiries. As they gain experience of the work of Committees and the Library, they will be able to identify opportunities for collaboration between the two departments to increase the impact of their work.

Main Duties

Liaison with Committee Teams

•     Undertake active liaison with Committee teams, to understand and advocate for their research and information needs with Library colleagues, and to promote the use of the training, resources and services that the Library makes available to them.

•     Act as the named point of contact for Committee teams to respond to requests and resolve any problems with Library and other designated support services.

Service Development

•     Take responsibility for developing a continuously evolving range of liaison, training, and other library services to support users in committee teams. These services will be delivered through individual efforts and by identifying opportunities for cooperation between Committee Office and Library teams.

•     Monitor the effectiveness of training and services and create management reports to be shared with the Research & Information Management Board and Committee Office Management Group.

Training and online learning development

•     Provide tailored group and 1:1 training to professional staff to encourage effective use of bibliographic databases, bibliographic management software and other appropriate electronic resources, in order for them to efficiently undertake desktop research and to conduct in-depth literature reviews.

•     Develop research guides and tutorials to support committee staff in their Continuing Professional Development and in their day to day work

•     Collaborate with the Training Delivery Manager to link Committee staff with existing Library training services and to coordinate the preparation of training material and contribute to Committee Office training.

Enquiry work

•     Undertake structured literature reviews and provide reference support to assist Committee Office staff in scoping committee inquiries, terms of reference and calls for evidence.

Resource evaluation

•     Advise on and evaluate the information resources available to the Committee Office as users of the Library service, taking into consideration developments in the wider information world.

Staff management

•     Manage, train and develop staff, in accordance with line management policies, including regularly assuring the quality of their work and attainment of targets.

Contributing to the wider success of the Directorate and organisation:

•     Maintain a high level of professional awareness and engagement with developments in librarianship, in order to make recommendations for improving services, and to raise the profile of the work of the Library and Committee Office in the library profession.

Why you’ll be hired

  • Library or Information Management qualification or relevant experience
  • Demonstrable experience and ability to provide a liaison service and understanding the needs of users
  • Ability to provide relevant and effective 1:1 and group training to professional staff
  • Use of own initiative to implement change within a team or service
  • History of establishing effective relationships with colleagues across different teams to deliver projects or services
  • Understanding the developments in Library and Information Management
  • Line management experience with an aptitude for coaching / mentoring
  • Capacity to share knowledge, skills and learning to all colleagues

Why you should apply
