About the company

We are presently recruiting for a Records Management Officer for our County Council client in Surrey. This is an 18-month contract position and will assist with the relocation of both the offices and records to a new location with Surrey County.

To support this move and relocation, the Council wish to move towards a more agile way of working including improving the way it manages it records. The Council currently holds a lot of records in hard copy, in office spaces and in the basement and attics of County Hall. In all, c30,000 linear metres of records and other items of storage have been identified.

What you’ll be doing

The Records Management Officer will be required to work with the Records Project Manager to create and develop policies, procedures and protocols for the management of both paper and electronic records.

In particular, this post will work on the re-tendering process for the off-site storage contract and its speciifcations as well as supporting the Records Project Manager on the project to move the county council’s records and assets from current locations.

The Records Management Officer will work with the Records Project Manager whilst they are in post, but also report directly to the Corporate Information Governance Manager and will work closely with the existing project teams across Property Services, Procurement and Surrey History Service.

For the purposes of assessing and analysing services Records Management needs, there will be occasions where the Records Management Officer will have to investigate unsuitable environments such as storage accommodation areas to give appropriate advice.

There are a number of internal and external networks that the Records Management Officer will need to develop and support.

Why you’ll be hired

To be considered for this role you will require:

  • Qualified Records Manager or QBE (Qualified by Experience)

  • Experience in records management, including working with electronic records management systems, implementing retention schedules , conducting compliance audits, writing procedures and guidance documentation and delivering training

  • Team player

  • First class communication skills who is flexible in approach and positive in attitude.
