About the company
We are actively recruiting for our education client in East London, who is seeking a Library Assistant to join their team until the Christmas holiday period. This is a full-time position, Monday to Friday from 8am – 4pm.
Lunch is provided during this assignment
No cover required during half term (21st October – 1st November)
What you will be doing
- Supervise pupils between the ages of 11 and 18, enforcing the school and library codes of conduct and dealing with misbehaviour or overcrowding when necessary
- Operate the circulation systems to issue/discharge books and laptops (Oliver LMS)
- Maintain the library as a tidy, safe, attractive and welcoming environment, shelving stock on a daily basis and ensuring resources are shelved correctly
- Assist pupil and staff with basic IT tasks
- Process new stock to include labelling, stamping and covering items
- Monitor the condition of circulating stock, referring items to the librarian for deletion and/or replacement
- Support the library staff (two librarians and a part-time library assistant) with reading groups, class visits and author events as and when these occur

- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and professionally with colleagues at all levels
- Knowledge of MS Word and Excel
