About the company

 

Sue Hill Recruitment have been instructed by our HE client, who is seeking a Learning and Teaching Librarian to develop subject-specific information resources and support for learning and teaching in a designated School and or subject area. This will include the development and delivery of face to face and online development services, advice and guidance, workshops and one-to-ones, in relation to information and digital literacies.

 

The Learning and Teaching Librarian will also contribute significantly to programmes which support the progressive development of student skills, knowledge and confidence to become an independent learner, working at Levels 3 – 7.

 

This position will be a 6-month fixed term contract for 35 hours a week.

 

What you’ll be doing

·         Understand the current and future needs of students and academic staff in line with institutional strategies, and directorate business plans

·         Ensure that appropriate and high-quality support for accessing, using and referencing resources is provided

·         Proactively design, promote and deliver innovative induction, and information-digital-literacy training programmes.

·         Contribute to the development and delivery of user support for information resources, developing subject-focussed guides in webpages, the Online Learning Environment and other open access learning resources

·         Contribute to the delivery of support and guidance to users in the library and work as part of the ‘management cover’ for evening and weekends on a rota basis

·         Oversee the management of collections and subscriptions in relation to School(s) monitoring usage, making evidence-informed decisions and auditing to ensure that information meets curriculum and research needs

·         Contribute to institutional committees and working groups as required

·         Maintain your own professional and educational practice, memberships, knowledge and skills, actively developing and contributing to research projects

·         Undertake any other duties or tasks as identified by the Director of Learning and Teaching or other members of the Directorate Senior Management Team.

 

Why you will be hired

To be considered for this role you will require:

         Qualification (Master’s degree or equivalent) in Library and Information Science or a related subject

         Professional qualification for learning and teaching in Higher Education advantageous

         Experience of delivering information literacy and skills development services, particularly in an academic context

         Awareness of current developments relevant to higher education libraries

         IT competent (including library applications, web authoring tools and electronic information sources)

         Experience of the design, delivery and evaluation of teaching and training sessions

·         Knowledge and / or experience with library classification schemes

         Ability to collate and analyse data

         Excellent communication skills (written and oral) with the ability to understand and challenge complex issues, clearly articulate and present solutions and negotiate to find resolution.

         Able to work within a team environment and contribute to a strong team ethos and culture

         Membership of a relevant professional organisation such as CILIP or HEA beneficial but not essential
