About the company

Our Higher Education client in Middlesex is currently looking to recruit a Digital Services and innovation Manager for a 12-month Maternity Cover contract. This is a key post within the Library Services department, with a focus on the provision of technical expertise and support for traditional and emerging library software solutions and standards.

The post offers an exciting opportunity to support implementation of the digital transformation strategy of the Information Services Directorate and also oversee the technical support, management, maintenance and operations of the infrastructure that underpins delivery of digital resources and services.

What you’ll be doing

The post-holder will use a variety of technologies, along with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, to provide the best possible practice and experience for library patrons and staff as they seek, access, and maintain the information in our library systems. This will include first-line support as well as maintenance and implementation in a broad range of systems with primary, sustained focus on the integrated library system

The post-holder is expected to collaborate regularly and appropriately with other members of Library and supplier/vendor technical support to manage platforms and servers, including staff applications, installation, and maintenance of hardware and software.

The post-holder is primarily responsible for  planning, supporting and developing the Library Management System (LMS), and associated products that form part of or integrate with the LMS such as discovery services, reading lists, RFID systems etc. 

In this regard, there is an expectation that you will have integrated library system experience, (preferably Sirsi Dynix’s Symphony) and an understanding of the vital importance of collaboration with stakeholders in relation to effective and efficient service delivery in a higher education Library Services environment.

Though this position will report to the Associate Head, Information Resources and Infrastructure, you will work closely with Library Services leadership team. You will collaborate  with technical staff, web development colleagues, vendors and students and also expected to investigate, identify, test and implement technologies that deliver library services in line with rapidly changing student and staff requirements and the ICT landscape.

Why you’ll be hired

To be considered for this role you will require:

Essential

  • Qualified Librarian
  • Educated to degree level (IT advantageous)
  • Strong experience of systems support and administration
  • Project management experience
  • Good understanding of digital libraries and their virtual environment
  • Extensive IT knowledge including Windows 2000/XP and MS Office
  • Familiarity with HTML and / or web software
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Ability to manage and prioritise time and workload
