£17.93 - £21.98 per hour D.O.E.

About the company

Our client is a mental health and community service in Essex, who are seeking a Clinical Librarian / Knowledge Specialist for a 3-month contract starting ASAP

What you’ll be doing

Responsible to the Library Manager, you will support the team, department and organisation with the development, delivery and evaluation of an expert, evidence search and enquiry service, whilst also contributing to Outreach activities across London Boroughs and Essex (Travelling may be required).

Key Tasks

  • Proactively provide a mediated evidence search service to support groups or teams to access the evidence they need to drive service redesign and development and improve patient care, at the point of need
  • Support high quality care by working with trust departments such as Clinical Governance, Research and Development
  • Use highly developed professional skills and judgement to filter valid and appropriate information to the user and present results in an appropriate format
  • Use critical appraisal skills to select and evaluate the evidence and prepare summaries or digests if required
  • Contribute to the development of current awareness and alerting services for all staff and other designated Library users to help them keep up to date with new research, guidance and policies
  • Contribute to the Library’s outreach activities
  • Pass less complex enquires to relevant Library staff
  • Contribute to the development of the Library’s physical and electronic collections by identifying resources for specialist areas following consultation with clinical leads and managers
  • Provide occasional Library issue desk cover for staff sickness and annual leave
  • Provide ad-hoc training to users when required to help users gain necessary information
  • Promote the comprehensive training programme provided by existing Library staff
  • Take steps to maintain the safety and welfare of library staff and users

Why you’ll be hired

To be considered for this role you will require:

Essential

  • Qualified with a degree or postgraduate diploma in Librarianship or Information Science
  • Educated to degree level
  • Previous experience of working within a specialist clinical / healthcare library advantageous
  • Literature searching skills using databases, catalogues and the internet
  • Previous experience of assisting and educating library service users by way of Library Inductions either in a 1 on 1 format or in a group setting
  • Exceptional organisational and prioritisation skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong personal and communication skills
