About the company

Our client, a professional membership organisation has a requirement for an Archivist / Cataloguer to be responsible

the preservation, care, catalogue, and management of records and documents

 

What you’ll be doing

  • Working with SSL System Simulation, maintain an organisational technique to ensure that all archive materials can be traced, identified and easily retrieved

  • Create and maintain accessible, retrievable computer archives and databases, incorporating current advances in electric information storage technology

  • Commission the preservation of objects, documents, and records

  • Catalogue and manage valuable collections and records that have deep historical values and the creation of metadata and preparation of indexes for online discovery

  • Prepare archival records, such as document descriptions, to allow easy access to information.

  • Organize archival records and develop classification systems to facilitate access to archival materials

  • Evaluate, and manage various materials that may be fragile and perishable for careful handling, preservation, and or conservation

  • Preparing record-keeping systems and procedures for archival research and for the retention or destruction of records

  • Respond to enquiries from the public, businesses, academics and other users with a high level of customer service

  • Arrange for the retrieval of records and support volunteers and members

  • Preserve records, documents, and objects, copying records to film, videotape, audiotape, disk, or computer formats as necessary.

  • Curate materials and records to be featured in publications

·         Experience of research relevant to archival collections

·         Excellent organisational skills required

·         Excellent communication and interpersonal to relate to and encourage, a range of users

·         Experience of cataloguing and working in an archive environment

·         Highly IT-literate and able to manage data base and computer-based catalogues

·         Ability to work in a small team and as a team player, working with staff and volunteers
