New service for public library users on the way?

There is a new MLA tender request published today, asking for bidders to carry out a ‘detailed business case’ to investigate the possibility of offering library users the chance to browse library stock online, order what they want, and have it delivered to any address they specify.

The immediate image that sprang to mind was of the library á la pizza delivery shop, with delivery boys lined up on scooters outside!  Presumably this is actually being put forward as a revenue-generating service offered through public libraries, something like the DVD delivery services on offer where you can order and watch your favourite films at home in return for a regular subscription?  It will be interesting to see whether this idea gets off the ground and how it might work in practice.
