The last in our series of guest blogs from
the LIKE Ideas conferences comes courtesy of Isabel Semmelroggen, who was
welcomed into the fold of the UK information community in style!
Isabel and I moved to London from Australia in mid-June after completing a
Master of Information Studies. Soon after I arrived I was invited to attend the
LIKE Ideas conference. The conference was the first event of its kind that I
have attended and was an excellent introduction to the London information
scene. It was interesting to hear so many different perspectives on “big data”
and to think about the implications for my future career as an information
also enjoyed the social aspect of the afternoon. I was a little nervous at the
thought of meeting so many new people at once but I needn’t have worried.
Everyone I talked to was friendly and welcoming. I attended the dinner after
the conference and it was wonderful to meet people from such a wide range of
professional backgrounds in an informal, relaxed setting. The conference has
given me a lot to think about, not only about “big data” but also about the
many directions a career in the information sector can take me.
my newcomer's perspective LIKE is a valuable community of "LIKE
minded" people and I hope to attend many more informal networking events
in the future. Thank you Sue Hill for inviting me along!
