About the company

This temporary Conservator job is initially being offered as a three month contract with a potential three month extension and the possibility of a permanent job in due course.

What you'll be doing

As Senior Conservator your job will involve practical preservation and conservation work on library and archive materials while maintaining a record of all conservation work undertaken. The job also involves conducting condition assessment surveys and producing reports on the physical condition and storage conditions of library stock across multiple sites. You will produce and maintain a prioritised preservation and conservation plan for items deemed worthy of permanent preservation, and carry out regular environmental monitoring for a variety of strong rooms and historic buildings housing valuable and sensitive collections. You will also have an opportunity to participate in teaching sessions relating to preservation and conservation, train and supervise volunteers and placement students working in the conservation unit, and assist in the planning and installation of library exhibitions.

Why you’ll be hired

This Senior Conservator job would suit someone with a qualification in conservation, or equivalent practical experience, and who holds (or would be willing to pursue) professional accreditation (PACR).
