In a recent article published in CILIP Update Martin White discussed the role Information Management has to play in organisations and how having a broken information culture can have a huge detrimental impact. Organisations seem to be lost when it comes to Information Management and don’t know where to place it in their structure, many choosing to place it in their IT department. But, as Martin points out, the success of Information Management doesn’t solely depend on having the right technology, you need the right skills too.
Organisations need help and guidance, but it appears that it is not forthcoming, especially not from the channels you would expect. But then perhaps that guidance needs to come from a new direction?
We do know professionals who have those skills and how they would benefit organisations. The word needs spreading, and quickly.
