How fast can you drink a pint?
Sorry to disappoint you all, but this blog isn’t about me revisiting my student years, it is in fact a celebration of the Mass Observation Archive which has just moved its collection to a new home in The Keep (I’m very impressed by the name, sounds suitably castle-like and mysterious, although I haven’t seen a picture yet so I can’t tell you if they’ve got ramparts).
“What’s all this got to do with the speed of beer?” I hear you cry? Well, the BBC has kindly chosen to mark the occasion by rounding up 10 curios from the archive I'd like to share, including a look at pint drinking times in the 1930s. The average person in Brighton on a Saturday night in November took 7.3 minutes to drink half a pint. Sounds like a recipe for disaster to me…
If that's not enough to slake your thirst there's still 5 days left to listen to the piece on Saturday's PM too.
