BIALL – CLSIG – SLA Europe Graduate open day

Logos for GWThe sun is shining, spring has sprung (almost) and our thoughts are turning to this year's crop of new professionals. This week we’ve got a guest blog from Ian Hunter, introducing the now regular BIALL – CLSIG – SLA Europe Graduate Open Day – featuring our very own Donald as a guest speaker. Jayne Winch from TFPL will also be on hand during the day to answer your questions.

Current SHR temps should remember that we do operate a CPD scheme for which this day is eligible!

Graduate trainees, new professionals, students or those considering a career change, there are still a few places left on the BIALLCLSIGSLA Europe Graduate Open Day on 10th April.

The day has been running since 2011 in its current format and is aimed at giving attendees a taster of as many different library sectors as possible.

Confirmed speakers include Donald Lickley of TFPLSue Hill Recruitment Emily Allbon of City University and founder of LawBore, Sandra Smythe of law firm Mishcon de Reya, Jackie Berry of the British Medical Association and Simon Barron of the University of London (and formerly the British Library), Marie Cannon of law firm Trowers & Hamlins (and well known speaker on issues affecting new professionals), Richard Nelsson of The Guardian newspaper and Katharine Schopflin of the Medical Defence Union, and all for only £20 + VAT.

There will be visits to two very different libraries on the day, the Wiener Library and the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies Library (IALS).

The Wiener Library is the world's oldest Holocaust archive and Britain's largest collection on the Nazi era, and IALS is a postgraduate research institute which also provides services to researchers in the wider legal community. The IALS Library is a national and international resource for legal research.

Feedback from one student last year includes: “Having been inspired by the BIALL and CLSIG Open Day event I attended earlier this year, I’m aiming for career in law or business librarianship when I graduate.”
